Peer Support Specialists

Peer Support Specialists (PSSs) are people who have had to work on their own recovery from mental health difficulties, substance abuse issues, or both, and who now aid in the recovery of other individuals who are served by CFD.

PSSs provide emotional support for adults in the community to rehearse and practice skills in increasingly challenging situations.

Together, the client and the PSS can informally discuss issues, increase coping skills, identify strengths and talents, and envision recovery.

PSSs are credentialed by Oregon Health Authority as Traditional Health Workers.

Behavioral Support Specialists

Behavioral Support Specialists (BSSs) act as mentors for children and adolescents who struggle with behavioral and mental health related challenges.

They teach life skills and coping strategies by using evidenced-based, positive reinforcement approaches, such as Motivational Interviewing and solution-focused interventions.

With guidance from the therapist and parents/guardians, BSSs work with youth in community settings, serving as positive role models by engaging in pro-social activities and promoting healthy peer association. BSSs connect with youth by doing various fun activities, and displaying positive and healthy ways to be involved in the community.

BSSs are credentialed as Qualified Mental Health Associates by Oregon Health Authority.
